We learned to read this year! We started in-person school on time during COVID-19. Our first day of school was August 19th, 2020. We are grateful to tell you that we didn’t close once this year due to the pandemic. We did it! I was so happy to see friends, and yes, be back in school. We are in 1st grade and we are doing 2nd grade spelling. I wrote a research paper on queens who ruled the Middle Ages. We did it! I broke three school records in track. I broke five. I taught the parts of speech with both of these books. Our devoted teachers stayed late for math team practice and it paid off. I placed first. I won first. I won first. I placed first. I won first. I placed first. I placed first for computation. We did it! We learned our math facts all the way to twelve. I competed in the ACSI speech competition by reciting a letter from Anne Frank. And I recited Luke 19 for speech meet.  We won regional and national gold and silver medals for creative writing. Yes! We did it! I had the joy to read "Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile" to my students. I taught my students to think critically, meaning, thinking outside the box. I taught art this year using this cart instead of an art studio. Ms. Swicegood taught me about American painter, Winslow Homer, and I painted this ship in his style. We produced three musicals, two band concerts, and over ten choir performances this year. I taught the students the importance of Christian Community focused on Jesus. I learned that God is always with me, especially in times like these. Our administration was extremely forward-thinking, and through the faithful prayers our teachers, our students, and our parents God's hand was all over school. We hope this is a great encouragement to you moving forward. We put social distancing into effect in the classroom, closed our campus to everyone except necessary staff, teachers, and students. We gave all of our students the choice to learn virtually or in person. Over 90% of our students chose to be on campus. And we prayed long and hard for every decision made. There were a few of our members who did contract COVID-19, but not one case of documented spread occurred at Veritas. We consider ourselves blessed and fortunate that our community stayed healthy. Thank you to all of our dedicated faculty and staff for their extra work this year. And thank you to our students, all the way down to our three-year-olds, for following our protocols. Thank you to our parents for trusting us. Thank you to God for his guidance. We did it! (collectively) We did it!
