Building a strong foundation in faith and academics
Kindergarten is a year when children gain incredible momentum in learning and become accustomed to a new classroom environment and schedule. It’s also a year filled with many firsts — a time when values begin to take hold, friendships form, and routines are established. At our private Christian kindergarten serving Greater Houston, we provide a Classical education dedicated to supporting your child’s intellectual development with a balance of spiritual, social, emotional, and physical growth opportunities.
Here is an overview of what you and your child can expect from our kindergarten experience.
Kindergarten Program Schedule
Our kindergarten program runs five days a week and is available to children who are 5 years old by September 1. Students are in school for a full day, from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., during which time they’ll take part in hands-on learning and study from Christian textbooks and the Bob Jones curriculum for reading.
Your child will benefit from a well-rounded education in the following subjects.

Additionally, kindergartners enjoy storytime and weekly grade-level chapel as well as a monthly full-school chapel. They also participate in our music and movement class, which promotes musical aptitude and sensory integration, while helping them become aware of their body positioning, coordination, and reflexes.
Extended Care
Our after school program provides kindergartners with an opportunity for extra play. They’ll enjoy snack time, arts and crafts, and playground activities. This program is available monthly or for daily drop-ins.

A Learning Environment That Integrates God’s Truth and Beauty Throughout All Subjects
Kindergarten is the start of the first phase of a Classical education, what’s known as the Grammar stage. During this time, your child will build a strong foundation upon which they’ll begin their academic journey. They’ll grow in knowledge within each subject area and develop skills in grammar, language, reading, writing, science, art, and history.
Through our whole-child approach to education, your child will benefit from the following.
- Biblical values. Students begin to dive into God’s Word and learn how to apply it in their lives, as they memorize Scripture, learn about biblical characters, and hear Bible stories.
- Experiential learning. Field trips to the Bellaire Fire Station, Houston Rodeo, and H-E-B enhance learning and provide eye-opening experiences that complement class instruction.
- Differentiated instruction. Our kindergarten teacher works closely with first-time Veritas students to get them up to speed with the curriculum that returning students have already covered during their preschool years at Veritas.
- Stimulating environment. Our kindergarteners enjoy age-appropriate playground equipment where they’re able to expend their energy in a space created with safety in mind.
Veritas was the right setting for our daughters to develop their potential. They thrived learning not only classical disciplines but also computer skills, fine arts, and sports, all within a culture consistent with a biblical worldview. This foundation enabled admittance to the colleges of their choice, including Berkeley and the University of Texas engineering and honors programs. Hands-On Learning
While our kindergartners learn by memorizing and reciting content, they also engage in fun hands-on experiences. They may take part in gardening or story-related arts and crafts. For STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics), they might work with cubes, pattern blocks, base 10 blocks, and mechanical gears. They may further explore math concepts by using M&M’s to create bar graphs or analyze patterns in fruits, which they can enjoy eating afterward.
Outdoor Experiences
As much as possible, your child will be outside enjoying the beauty surrounding our campus. Storytime or French lessons, for instance, might be held outside where children can soak in the sun, hear the sounds of nature, and breathe fresh air. Our kindergartners also enjoy visiting our prayer and butterfly gardens, green turfed space with umbrellas, U-shaped area for instruction, and Under the Oaks, a completely shaded space with a deck, bench, and picnic tables.
Technology-Free Emphasis
We want our students to learn by doing and engage in rewarding experiences that don’t involve individual screen time. That’s why our kindergarteners do not have access to technology in the classroom. They’ll work on addition, syllables, vowel blends, sentence development, and more the traditional way. From time to time, our kindergarten teacher may complement a lesson, such as Bible story or music instruction, with a short video — the extent of technology in the classroom.
