Allicia Tillman
Allicia Tillman - Former Director of Development, Dean of Academics, and Athletic Director
Allicia Tillman was a part of the Veritas community for 6 years. In addition to her Administrative duties as the Director of Development, Dean of Academics, and Athletic Director, she was also the 6th-grade homeroom teacher, taught 5th and 6th grade English, and coached Girls' Volleyball.
What do you love about Veritas?
I love that Veritas feels like a community where all parts are working together - everyone is involved in supporting the mission of Veritas.
Why do you like teaching at Veritas?
I like teaching at Veritas because of the unique opportunity that it provides to truly get to be a part of our students' and families' lives. We get to see them grow and mature physically, emotionally, and spiritually over the years and get to partner with families for several years.
How do you prepare students for lives of service and learning?
For me, modeling a love for knowledge of all subjects is paramount for developing lifelong learners. I try and let students see that I'm always learning, even when I'm the one who's supposed to be the "expert". I also try to point out to students the small ways they can serve others- speaking words of kindness, carrying another student's books, offering to put away materials even if you weren't the last person to use them. It's said that repeatedly doing small things forms habits that can last a lifetime.
What is a unique experience, talent, or interest that you bring to help shape Veritas students?
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Journalism and truly believe that writing is the most important communication form, especially in the 21st century. I'm passionate about teaching children how to effectively communicate with their words in a world where nearly everything they type can be published in an instant. I also really love to travel and I try and share my travel experiences and knowledge of other cultures with my students. I want them to realize that the human race shares many more similarities than differences.
What sets a Veritas student apart from others?
Their ability to be comfortable in a variety of situations. Whether it be in an academic setting, on stage, on a sports field, or whatever opportunity arises, Veritas students seem to approach the world with confidence because they've had the foundation that has prepared them to succeed.
