Accelerated Reader (AR)
AR stands for Accelerated Reader and is a program that Veritas follows in order to instill in the hearts and minds of our students the habit but also the love of reading. Students may read any book that interests them as long as it is at their grade level or one grade below.
The AR website www.ARBookFind.com gives you the level and points of any book that students may take an AR test on.
Each 9-week period, students are required to accumulate the following points depending on their grade level:
- 1st Grade - 2 points
- 2nd Grade - 4 points
- 3rd Grade - 6 point
- 4th Grade - 8 points
- 5th-8th Grade - 10 points (5 points come from novels read
in class)
Students may find books at their public library, bookstores, etc… Students may also check out two books at a time from the Veritas library.
- All AR tests must be taken at school.
- All tests can only be taken once per child.
- The computer keeps track of tests taken by a
student over the years and will not allow a student to take the same test
twice.
- Watching the movie instead of reading the book
will not help you pass the test!
If a student is required to get 6 points and reads a 6 point book, but does not get all questions on the test correct, they will not get all 6 points. They will have to read another book and take another test to finish getting their required points.
Points are due the week before Report Cards are issued. Teachers will remind students of the exact day points are due. For the lower school, the AR grade will be a part of their reading grade. For middle school, it will be considered a literature grade.
