Fine Arts

About Our Program:

At Veritas, we present the history of the world in chronological order starting with the Ancient Near East and Egypt in second grade, Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome in third grade, up to American and Texas history in eighth grade. Our art program integrates the art history of these ages with the world history students are learning.

Our goals are to expose the children to the various art works created during these times and to teach them how the elements and principles of art were implemented in order to make masterpieces. We challenge the students to imitate styles and techniques while guiding them to express themselves in the use of color and choice of themes, making their work relevant to their lives. Middle School students are also required to write creatively in response to their work as part of their individual portfolios.

The work of our students has been exhibited throughout the Houston area, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the sixth-largest fine arts museum in the country, whose education department has won numerous awards in the state of Texas. Our students consistently receive top prizes at the ACSI Art Festival. We are very proud of our award-winning art department!

All students, grades 1st through eighth participate in weekly art class in our art studio with a qualified and experienced art teacher. We collaborate extensively with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) as a resource for our students. MFAH docents have worked with us in developing tours for our students that introduce them in a tangible way to the times they are studying and instruct them in learning how and what to look for in artworks.

Our method of education has invited our students into the midst of what Mortimer Adler, a 20th century pioneer of classical education, called “the great conversation,” that ongoing discussion to which the great thinkers, poets, artists, and musicians have been contributing throughout history.
