The Athletic Department of Veritas Christian Academy utilizes competition and physical training to teach student-athletes the disciplines needed to build Christian character while honoring God in their efforts on and off the field of play. Veritas is committed to instilling excellence in education, teamwork and leadership in our athletes.
Our middle school athletes compete against area schools in both the Greater Houston Athletic Conference (GHAC) and the West Houston Christian Athletic Conference (WCHAC). Middle school boys (grades 5-8) can participate in flag football, basketball, track, and tennis. Middle school girls (grades 5-8) can participate in volleyball, basketball, track, and tennis.
Our Veritas cheer team, the Blue Angels, consists of girls in grades 3-4. They cheer at games during both football and basketball seasons.
The Rams In Training (RIT) program introduces students to the arena of athletics in a Christian environment. The purpose of this program is to assist in the development of fundamental skills, gross motor skills, and hand-eye coordination that can be applied in any sport. The RIT programs are offered to boys and girls in grades 1-4. In the past, we have offered soccer, flag football, volleyball, and basketball.
Over the past year, our Physical Education department has incorporated the jump rope curriculum, Jump2BFit, into all classes. From this initial curriculum, the J.A.M. (Jump Art Masters) Team was created. Students in grades 1-8 may try-out to be a part of this elite jump rope team. They will represent Veritas in various jump rope competitions and exhibitions.
As part of our commitment to building character through athletics, we maintain a chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) in middle school. The FCA huddle meets once a month for worship and Bible study. It is led by athlete students with the coaches in the background.
